OUR GOODWILL STOR(I)ES: “That Is No Small Thing” – Volunteering for Goodwill

This week, on Our Goodwill Stories, Mike and Emily discuss the volunteer opportunities they each coordinate. Mike talks about the Radio Reading Service and how all of the many volunteers read local newspapers, magazines, and books to blind and print impaired people in the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys. Emily talks about the two groups she works with. The Junior Group of Goodwill plans the annual Gems Jewelry Sale and Charity Auction, which is held in March at Stambaugh Auditorium. Her other volunteer group, the Vision Screeners, screen all four-year-old children in daycares and schools in the Mahoning Valley for amblyopia, or lazy eye, and other potential vision concerns and then refer them to further professional care. Goodwill recently celebrated all of these volunteers at the now-annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, and representatives from each group will be on future episodes.
